Domestic
and Family violence is one of the most common forms
of abuse and assault in Australia. It happens when
adults abuse their partners (wives, girlfriend), when parents abuse their children or when adolescent
or adult children abuse their parents or siblings.
About 95% of domestic violence is perpetrated by men
against women and children.
However men can also be victims of Domestic and Family
Violence.
Family and Domestic Violence is different from family
arguments. When abuse and violence occurs and
people are fearful and afraid of another’s actions
this is domestic violence.
Domestic and family violence is when one person in
a relationship wants to have power and control over
the other person in a relationship. It involves the
use of force, threats, or intimidation.
Dynamics of Family & Domestic
Violence (F&DV)
F&DV is not just a series of isolated incidents
or a result of a momentary loss of control. Perpetrators
of family and domestic violence TAKE CONTROL when
they abuse. F&DV is a crime of power and control,
not passion out of control.
The violence and abuse may increased if the perpetrator
is affected by alcohol, drugs or has mental health
issues.
