Impressions (2023)

Although this piece was not originally made for the context of how FDV has affected me growing up, when I look back and reflect, it becomes apparent to me that nearly everything I create is tainted by trauma. So many times as a child I would find myself feeling lost and like I was drowning always looking for a way to escape - bubble, petrichor, fantasy, butterfly - the darkness - chaos, abyss, suffocate, gossamer.

An excerpt of the original artist statement, before the meaning was adapted: "Impressions explores the effect that others leave, and how that forms my opinion of who they are.

The images in which the words have been cut are contradictory to the definition of the word. The viewer must look past the original image – figuratively and literally – to see the true meaning. The frame each word is in further implies the definition of the word and how I want it to be perceived."
