Is fear of partner an effective question to identify intimate partner abuse?
Project Lead
What’s this project about?
Asking about fear of partner has been found acceptable to women and health practitioners, however there has not been a rigorous evaluation of its sensitivity and specificity against a comprehensive measure of intimate partner violence, the Composite Abuse Scale, which is viewed as a criterion standard in the field. This project will determine how accurately three item measures asking about fear of an intimate partner identify women exposed to different types of abuse.
What can we expect to come out of this project?
Publication on utility of asking about fear of partner as a clinical identification tool. Paper now published:
How Valid is the Question of Fear of a Partner in Identifying Intimate Partner Abuse? A Cross-Sectional Analysis of Four Studies
What has this project achieved so far?
Analysis of four studies developed in Australia and Canada with robust sample sizes completed. Preliminary results presented in conferences and paper with final report submitted for publication.
