Fiona
Giles is a Research Fellow at the Safer Families Centre. Fiona’s work focuses on women’s experience of psychological violence, and how health services can provide appropriate and tailored responses. She is currently working on the UNCOVER project, which aims to facilitate health services to empower women experiencing psychological violence to seek safety and healing using a trauma and violence informed approach.

Fiona has experience in both quantitative and qualitative research, and conducting systematic reviews. Fiona recently completed a PhD at the Judith Lumley Centre, La Trobe University examining the implementation of evidence-based interventions in a large Australian government place-based initiative for children. During this time she provided research support to the Prevention of Violence and Children team at the Judith Lumley Centre. Her work included exploring women’s experiences of gendered violence in sport; evaluating an intervention designed to repair the relationship between mothers and young children after family violence; examining how to improve the safety of women and girls on public transport; and exploring maternal and child health nurses’ experiences of providing support to new mothers experiencing family violence.

Fiona has 20 years’ experience as a senior public health administrator in South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and the United Kingdom. She has expertise in strategy and planning, policy development, project management, governance and strategic communications.
