Module: Addressing Family Violence: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples
Learn practical ways to strengthen your skills in identifying and responding to family violence. We outline how to respond safely and appropriately to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their families who are at risk of, or are presenting with family violence.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this module you should be able to:
Discuss the nature, severity and impact of family violence within the Australian setting.
Identify factors contributing to higher rates of family violence within Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.
Explain the barriers Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people experience when seeking support for family violence
Identify and safely respond to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experiencing family violence
Distinguish methods and resources for seeking support for yourself as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health worker or practitioner
