Prof Joanne Spangaro

Jo Spangaro is a Professor and Head of Social Work at the University of Wollongong. Her area of research is health responses to gender-based violence which draws on extensive direct practice and policy experience in domestic and sexual violence, with both victims and offenders.

Jo has co-authored a book on therapy with harming fathers, victimized children and their mothers after parental sexual assault. Jo is currently working on projects on screening for intimate partner violence in emergency departments and a multi-jurisdictional study on what sustains processes for identification of partner abuse in antenatal settings. Jo is a member of the NSW Domestic and Family Violence Council.
