Laura Tarzia is Associate Professor in the Department of General Practice, The University of Melbourne.

She is Co-Lead of the Department's Sexual and Family Violence (SAFE) program and co-Chairs the Melbourne Research Alliance to End Violence against women and their children (MAEVe). Laura has a background in sociology, with an emphasis on qualitative methodologies.

Laura's work focuses on sexual, reproductive and intimate partner violence against women and their areas of overlap. Her research program aims to 1) understand the dynamics and context of different types of violence and 2) harness insights from victim/survivors to inform interventions in health settings and online. She has recently completed a four-year program of work on intimate partner sexual violence, the "Beyond Silence" project, which resulted in a world-first, trauma-informed website to support women survivors. She is currently lead CI on the INVEST Project (ARC Discovery) which explores female international students' experiences of sexual and intimate partner violence. Her other main program of research focuses on understanding reproductive coercion and abuse and its intersections with coercive control and sexual violence.
